With more shoppers forced online and the increased need to stockpile essential goods for later distribution, large warehousing has been one of the winners of the pandemic.

Metron have recently delivered a series of 3D Topographic surveys across the UK for a large online retailer who are significantly expanding their storage and distribution network to meet the growth in online shopping.

The sites varied in size from 10-40 hectares and required the addition of underground services. The work was all completed within tight deadlines to meet the scheduling of site acquisition and ongoing construction process.

Investment in retail logistics reached a record high of £4.7bn in 2020, according to Savills. That is a 25 per cent increase on 2020 and £500m more than the previous record set in 2014.
